Voluntary Study Trip to Barcelona
Architecture Walk: Modernism and Gaudí
On November 21, 2022, we participated in an architecture walk through Barcelona, guided by an expert who gave us detailed explanations about Gaudí's works and the modernist architecture of the city.
During the tour, we visited several iconic buildings and gained insights into the unique style and techniques of Gaudí and other modernist architects. The guide explained how their designs were not only artistic and innovative but also significantly influenced architecture worldwide. It was a very interesting experience that offered a wonderful glimpse into the city's rich architectural heritage.
University of Barcelona
On November 22, 2022, we visited the University of Barcelona, specifically the Department of Geography within the Faculty of Geography and History. We attended a lecture on Barcelona's development and learned about the city's unique design, such as the characteristic "squares" in the Eixample neighborhoods.
Leica
On November 23, 2022, during our study trip to Barcelona, we visited the company Leica. We received an extensive explanation about the company, their activities, and the products they develop. Additionally, we witnessed a demonstration of their latest device at the time: the Leica AP20 AutoPole.
Leica also performs repairs on equipment, which are then sold at a lower price. This made it possible for surveyors with a limited budget to access quality equipment.
ICGC (Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya)
On November 23, 2022, we visited the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC), where we were informed about their work and responsibilities in Catalonia. The ICGC plays a vital role in cartography, geodesy, and geology and supports land and urban planning. The visit provided us with a clear understanding of how crucial geo-information is for effectively managing land and the environment, with technology playing a key role.
